When we look back on the Bush administration the one thing that will be so obviously missing will be any kind of oversight or operational command and control by the President. The recent revalations by Tom Ridge has made me dig up an old article that I had written about the Rumsfeld tenure in the Defense Department and how he was allowed to play petty politics with the lives of American servicmen. The Bush administration got back in the news again this week with the announcment that there will be a formal investagation into the abusive pracitces by CIA agents under his watch. Not only that, but the fact that they knew about the abuse and chose to do nothing about it. Read more at my article about the mess that Bush left Obama.

What many of us suspected has been confirmed by a new book by former Secratary of Homland Security, Tom Ridge. He admits that he felt pressured by the Bush administration to artifically raise the terror alert level in order to win his boss more votes on election day. They also evidently kept him out of the loop on important information and meetings that as head of Homeland Security he should have had access to. See more in my article about Tom Ridge.

The more that the Republicans fight against a health reform bill the longer it takes to get the uninsured and under insured proper coverage. That means that more people will be diagnosed with conditions and diseases that were found to late to be properly treated. Hence, more people will die. The idea of true single payer health care should not be tossed aside so easily. It may be the only viable way to get everybody good quality health care without extremely high costs.
